Scabies is usually contracted after prolonged, skin-to-skin contact with an infected person. The female scabies mite is specially attracted to body warmth and odour and is known to hide under or on any jewellery or even under nails. However, the mite doesn’t usually travel far once its under the skin, so the burrows may not be visible. A scabies rash is often the first symptom to occur, and the last to disappear, and the rash can continue during the weeks after the infestation by mites has been successfully eradicated. Use the medication as prescribed and instructed. Since it is a very itchy rash it can be also obscured due to the scratch marks as well as possible bacterial infections such as impetigo which may mask it.
